Driving licence documents
India is outside the EU/EEA. Drivers using a non-EU/EEA licence in Italy should carry the valid national licence together with an International Driving Permit or an official Italian translation, as applicable under Italian rules. Check the rental supplier's own document requirements before paying, because rental-company conditions can be stricter.
Credit card, debit card and deposit
Card and security-deposit rules vary by rental company, vehicle and location. Before booking, check the accepted card type, the name required on the card, deposit amount, available credit and any debit-card restrictions shown in the rental conditions.
ZTLs, toll roads and city driving
Many historic Italian city centres use restricted-traffic zones (ZTL). Do not enter a restricted zone unless your vehicle is authorised. Italy also has toll motorways, so check your route and the payment options before travelling.
