Car rental at Palermo Airport

Falcone Borsellino Airport (PMO) sits at Punta Raisi, 35 km west of Palermo, between mountains and sea. For western Sicily — Trapani, Erice, the Zingaro reserve — picking up here is ideal: you never touch city traffic at all.

01

Pick-up locations

Rental desks are in the arrivals hall, with cars in the airport car parks a short walk away. The fleet covers every main category, but Sicily's summer demand is fierce: comparing and booking well ahead is the single best way to secure the car you actually want.

02

Driving there

The A29 motorway runs straight from the airport: Palermo in about 35–45 minutes, Trapani in around an hour, with a direct junction for the Castellammare del Golfo coast. Tolls are paid at barriers. If Palermo city is your only stop, the Trinacria Express train or shared shuttles are a sensible alternative to keeping a car in town.

03

Good to know

Arriving on a summer weekend? Expect queues at the desks when charters land together — having your documents ready (licence, IDP if needed, credit card in the main driver's name) speeds things up noticeably.

04

Comparing offers: what to look at

Beyond price, compare the security deposit, fuel policy, mileage and cancellation terms: at equal rates these details change the experience the most. Every offer in the search shows its own conditions before you book.

05

The right car for western Sicily

Between Sicilian old towns and tight parking, a compact is often the easiest choice; for longer inland itineraries consider a larger category. Prefer automatic or electric? Filter the search — real availability depends on dates and suppliers.

06

Pick-up and return at Punta Raisi

Desks are in the arrivals area with cars in the airport car parks. In summer, queues bunch up when charter flights land together: booking ahead with your flight number recorded speeds up pick-up. On return, follow the rent-a-car signage from the A29.
