El Prat (BCN) sits just 12 km from the city and is the practical pick-up point for Catalonia road trips. All major suppliers operate on-airport, so comparing deals before you land usually means a shorter queue and a better rate.
Pick-up locations
Rental desks are in the arrivals halls of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, with vehicles parked in the terminal car parks. A free shuttle bus connects the terminals every few minutes. If you arrive at T2 but your supplier is at T1 (or vice versa), allow around 15 minutes for the transfer.
Driving there
The C-31 and C-32 link the airport to the city (20–30 minutes) and the coast: south towards Sitges and Tarragona, north towards the Costa Brava via the AP-7. Some sections of the C-32 south of the airport remain tolled. Fuel stations just outside the airport make full-to-full returns straightforward.
Good to know
Summer weekends bring heavy traffic on the coastal roads — Friday afternoons heading south and Sunday evenings heading back are the peaks. If your flight arrives late, check your supplier's desk closing time and after-hours pick-up conditions in advance.
