Ciampino (CIA) is Rome's compact low-cost airport, handling mainly Ryanair and budget carriers. Smaller than Fiumicino, it is quick to navigate — and it sits right next to the Castelli Romani wine hills, which makes it a clever pick-up point if Rome itself is not your first stop.
Pick-up locations
Rental desks are in or just outside the arrivals area; some suppliers operate from car parks a short walk or shuttle ride away — your voucher states the exact meeting point. Fleets are smaller than at Fiumicino, so booking ahead matters more here, especially for automatics and larger cars.
Driving there
Via Appia Nuova leads directly to the city (about 40 minutes in normal traffic), and the GRA ring road is a few minutes away for routes north, south or to the coast. If you are heading for the Castelli Romani — Frascati, Castel Gandolfo, Nemi — you can be on country roads within fifteen minutes of leaving the terminal.
Good to know
Late-evening arrivals should check desk closing times carefully: some Ciampino suppliers close before the last flights. As anywhere around Rome, plan city driving around ZTL hours if your route crosses the centre.
