Car rental at Bari Airport

Bari Karol Wojtyła Airport (BRI) is the main gateway to Puglia — and Puglia is a region built for the car: the trulli of Alberobello, the cliffs of Polignano a Mare, the sassi of Matera and the beaches of the Gargano are scattered across two coasts with little useful rail between them.

01

Pick-up locations

Rental desks are in the arrivals area, with cars collected from the airport parking structures a short walk away; a few suppliers run a quick shuttle. In summer, fleets sell out early — comparing and booking in advance is the difference between the car you want and what is left.

02

Driving there

The A14 motorway runs north towards the Gargano and south towards Brindisi and Lecce, while the SS16 coastal road links the seaside towns. Bari's old town is a ZTL — park outside and walk in. Matera lies about an hour inland across the regional border in Basilicata.

03

Good to know

Distances look short on the map but Puglian country roads are slow; plan two or three bases rather than day-radiusing from one. Fuel stations in rural areas often close at lunch — keep the tank comfortable.
