Bologna Marconi (BLQ) sits at Italy's motorway crossroads: the A1, A13 and A14 meet here, putting Modena, Parma, Ravenna, Ferrara and even Florence within about an hour. Add the Motor Valley — Ferrari, Lamborghini, Ducati and Pagani all have factory museums nearby — and this is one of Italy's best rental bases.
Pick-up locations
Rental desks are on the ground floor of the terminal, with cars in the adjacent parking structures. If your trip is Bologna-only, the Marconi Express monorail reaches the central station in seven minutes — collect the car when you leave the city.
Driving there
The tangenziale ring links directly to the A1 (Florence 1h15, Milan 2h), A13 (Padua) and A14 (Ravenna and the Adriatic). Bologna's centre has a ZTL with strict 'T-zone' camera enforcement on key streets — plan city driving carefully or park at the edge.
Good to know
Food-wise, the productive countryside is the point: Parma ham, Modena's balsamic vinegar and the Parmigiano dairies all offer visits best strung together by car. Book tastings ahead in high season.
