Car rental at Pisa Airport

Pisa Galileo Galilei (PSA) is Tuscany's low-cost gateway, barely a kilometre from the Leaning Tower. As a rental base it is superb: Lucca is 20 minutes away, Florence an hour, the Versilia beaches 30, and the Chianti hills start just east.

Pick-up locations

Rental desks are grouped in the dedicated car-rental terminal, reached by a five-minute shuttle ride (or a 500-metre signed walk) from arrivals. The setup is compact and fast; in summer, booking ahead secures the better categories.

02

Driving there

The FI-PI-LI expressway links Pisa to Florence in about an hour; the A11 runs to Lucca and the A12 along the coast. Two warnings: Pisa's centre is a ZTL, and Florence's is one of Italy's most strictly enforced — if you day-trip to Florence, park outside the ZTL or confirm access arrangements with your hotel.

Good to know

For a pure Florence city break, the direct PisaMover train plus walking beats a car. The rental car pays off when you string together the hill towns, wineries and coast that trains don't reach.
