Car rental in Naples

Naples is gloriously intense — and its surroundings are some of Italy's greatest drives: Pompeii and Herculaneum, the Amalfi Coast, the Royal Palace of Caserta and the Cilento coast. The city itself rewards walking and the metro; the car earns its place the moment you leave it.

01

Pick-up locations

The main choice is Naples Capodichino Airport (NAP), ten minutes from the centre, with city offices around the central station and the port area. If you plan to ferry across to Capri or Ischia, note that taking a rental car to the islands is often restricted — check the supplier's terms before you book.

02

Driving there

Central Naples has ZTL restricted zones and famously assertive traffic; the Tangenziale di Napoli (A56) bypasses the city and links the airport to the A1 (Rome) and A3 (Salerno, Amalfi turn-offs). The Amalfi Coast road is spectacular but narrow and slow — start early and avoid summer Sunday afternoons.

03

Good to know

Parking in the centre is limited; choose accommodation with a garage if you keep the car overnight. In town, small cars make life noticeably easier. As always, deposits, fuel policies and island or cross-border rules vary by supplier — read the rental conditions before booking.
