Car rental in Palermo

Palermo is Sicily at full volume: markets, Norman cathedrals and baroque squares. Around it, the west of the island — Monreale, Cefalù, Segesta, San Vito Lo Capo, the Marsala salt pans — is made for the car, with short distances and railways that rarely connect the dots.

01

Pick-up locations

Falcone Borsellino Airport (PMO) at Punta Raisi has the widest fleet choice; city offices near the port and Politeama serve later pick-ups. If Palermo itself is your first stop, the centre is walkable — collecting the car on departure day avoids ZTL stress and parking costs.

02

Driving there

The A29 links the airport, the city and the west (Trapani, Marsala); the A19 crosses inland to Catania. Palermo's centre has ZTL zones and assertive traffic — confident, patient driving is essential. Coastal and mountain roads are scenic but slower than the map suggests; budget generous time.

03

Good to know

Street parking rules are strict and the historic centre is a maze: choose a hotel with a garage if you keep the car in town. Summer demand in Sicily is intense — book early, especially for automatics, and photograph the car carefully at pick-up as you would anywhere.
